Professor Chapman is President of the European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS). The focal points of his research interests have been (i) the structure, metabolism, and biological activities of atherogenic apo.B-containing particle subspecies (VLDL, LDL and Lp(a)), (ii) the relationship of HDL particle heterogeneity to atheroprotective activity in normolipidaemia and in atherogenic dyslipidaemia, (iii) the role of CETP in the regulation of intravascular lipoprotein metabolism, (iv) the pharmacological modulation of lipoprotein metabolism in atherogenic dyslipidaemias and metabolic disease, and (v) the role of monocyte-macrophages and foam cells in the inflammatory fragilisation and thrombogenicity of the atherosclerotic plaque.
